Life Style : Family

February 23, 2011

Talk about being thankful for flexible families (and photographers)!  We moved our family session up a day to hopefully avoid possible rain… and one thing it did do on Friday was RAIN!  I don’t think we would of had half as much fun had we kept our original date, just saying cold wet rain isn’t great for family portraits but it can be done.

Looking at the pictures you wouldn’t be able to tell that the temperature had already started to drop, the Bryan’s wouldn’t show it.  The fact that off camera we were doing jumping jacks and sprints is neither here nor there!  I have to admit that even with the chill, some sprints of my own to grab a misplaced lens in my car, and a busted mirror this was a terrific session.  I love how the Bryan’s love each other; they laugh from their toes, their hugs and kisses are genuine, and their laughter is infectious!

Believe me or not but I did NOT set this picture up below!  Bethany was writing love messages in the sand and when I turned around this was framed perfectly!

One of my favorites from the day – I love how Jed is kissing his little sister *hearts*!!

I don’t know what their motto is but Live, Laugh, Love *should* be top of the list!!

Thank you for including me and allowing me to capture your love!

Sneakin’a'peek : Baby Vito

Couldn’t wait to share from the family session this afternoon!!

If I wasn’t all taken care of baby fever would ensue!!  I love me some baby Vito!!

Life Style : Cook style

August 27, 2010

Armed with balloons and flowers I arrived to shoot the Cooks and soon found out it’s not always a good idea to bring balloons to family sessions.  As we watched the green balloon go bye bye and I caught the magic that holds this family together.  Together momma and daddy Cook have all bases covered: while one kisses boo-boos the other is making the sure the mini-Cook doesn’t fall in the water, they swap and continue.  It was pure magic!

I’ve come to the conclusion that a session is not a session without some sort of tears!  It might be tears of laughter, or boo-boo tears, but never-the-less there always seem to be some salt water leaking from someones eyes!  I don’t know if thats the beginning of a good tag line or not!

After several emails back and forth I knew instantly I was going to like Angela… what I didn’t know was that I was going to equally like her hubs!  Let me tell you what a dedicated husband and daddy this guy is.  He got off a night shift and came straight home to a portrait session – if that doesn’t say LOVE I don’t know what does!  Marc napped on the couch a little while Angela and I played in their perfectly decorated 50’s themed kitchen.

I am so envious of Angela’s collection of vintage pyrex… I could of spent a day photographing just that!  BUT! I had other things to cover… like Angela is all her glowing, barefoot, pickle and ice cream eating roundness : )  We shared a lot about life styles (yes, Marc & Angela are creative enough to pull off this lifestyle!), pregnancy, and babies but the thing I truly enjoyed the most was Angela’s quirky sense of humor and great laugh!  I hope to hear her laughter for a long time to come.  I can’t wait for the arrival of Jr.  I just know this kid is going to be something!!

It was my first time setting up off camera flash (thank you Evan Bishop for the AWESOME phone tech support — YOU ROCK!), so BIG THANK YOU to Marc & Angela for being patient while I ironed out the kinks.

There is something to say about belly laughs…. they. are. AWESOME!  I almost felt bad for Erin during our sessions because I didn’t want her to ruin her face with tear streaks but the pure joy I captured was well worth it!  I was so honored to capture Erin and Vincent’s 5th anniversary this year.  5 years ago in this same town, Erin sauntered down to the wedding bowl and promised to love one man for the rest of her life… I wonder if she knew that five years later she’d be standing there with TWO men?!  How lucky of a lady to have two handsome men escorting her through life… making her laugh and bringing sunshine (even when it’s overcast)…

Thank you for bringing me into your celebrations, I hope you had a million more laughs that night and a crapbillion more to come!

Here is a full slide show from their special day : )

I had the pleasure today to get my own peek behind the scenes on talk radio today!  Roger and his awesome staffer, Anna, kept me in stitches while I nabbed some updated head shots for him.  Here is a sneak peek from today with more to come this next week…

Lookin’ good, Roger!!

A taste of things to come… Pickles & Ice Cream and a whole lotta lovin’ from the oven!!

Yes, I’ve gone completely bonkers and today is my What Wednesday post just two days late.  It is bound to happen, right?  I swear I have a good excuse though as to why I’m late… remember my favorite childrens boutique here in Pacific Beach, Forget Me Not? Well, it’s going through a change.  The new owners have taken me on to help get their new look going and I’m so excited to present Tula Ru… !  There will be a future post on this more indepth when Casey & Damon have their grand reopening… SO EXCITED!

I’ve got a lot in store for the blog next week which will feature the full shoot from last weekends family session, a wedding at the La Valencia and a sneak peek from from Sunday’s rockin’ baby bump!  Phew!!  Love it!!

In the mean time here are a few of my favorite model helping me figure out flash, off camera flash and all sorts!  She’s already got a couple great moves in her repertiore… we’re in SO much trouble with this one in the future.

This first set is using two flashes. One directly behind to highlight the hair and one on camera directed to her.  I know it’s pretty basic but I’ve even learned from that simple set up!  Do not place the flash directly behind… I can off set it to the left or right and direct the light to her and get a better effect.  I’m also going to be moving the main flash off camera now that my triggers came in the mail!!  Woot woot! I know, I’m totally geeking out here!

This second series if my favorite. It’s soft and reminiscent of natural lighting. I’ve shot through the umbrella to distribute the light evenly from the left side and bounced the second flash from the ceiling. Perfection with nice catch lights in her eyes!  Again, with the posing… seriously?! HAHA!

Just a glimpse into the fun we had yesterday in La Jolla!  We laughed, then we cried (because we laughed so hard!). It was awesome!!
