Looking back at my wedding almost 9 years ago I am proud to say I didn’t do too bad! There are a few things I’d change but some of the things I wouldn’t change though are the favors. Okay, okay! I would of changed them a little!! I had yankee candles wrapped in toile with a card attached asking them to think of us each time they lit it. Cute eh? What would I change? Well….
How can you improve on candles? Well, make sure you research what they are made of (some candles burn cleaner than others) , company practices (local artisans, fair trade practices etc)? Personally I would use beeswax candles like these found on beau-coup or some other eco-friendly candles (talk about uncanny coincidences that Dream Green Weddings just released an article on this! GOOD STUFF TO READ!). Improve on these products by finding a local artisan that hand crafts these and make a deal! Personalize it even further with some ribbon/raffia to match your color theme and a love note from the bride & groom. Seriously, the options are endless! Candles transcend across any color scheme or wedding theme.
Other friendly favors I would suggest would be local preserves, honey, or candies! Make sure you bottle them in something equally friendly like nice recycled glass containers, thrift store treasures or 100% post consumer recycled bags/boxes!
Here’s a way to knock out two “issues” at once : make your favors the center pieces! Team up miniature potted plants, a love note from the bride & groom and a single candle… voila! Simple and double purpose! Double the eco-friendly points!! Feeling frisky, make the potted plants edible herbs like peppermint and make the love note your favor mint recipe (mine would be Mojitos!).
I’m throwing my hat in for the day and calling this a wrap! Make sure to stop back next What Wednesday to see what I have up my sleeve…
Love, Yvonne
PS. Thanks, Marcy, for the inspiration! I’m so lucky to have friends like you!!
